Description

This degree program prepares students to work in a variety of early childhood care and education settings including Head Start, Early Head Start, GSRP or State-funded Pre-K, private childcare centers and family childcare homes. Roles may vary and include: lead teacher, associate teacher, home visitor/parent educator, caregiver and program director. Bay’s ECE Program curriculum is aligned with the AAS degree teacher preparation standards issued by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Council for Professional Recognition (CDA). Students will gain an ECE knowledge base and go on to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for children ages birth-8 covering all content areas. The AAS Degree requirements include 3 semesters/300 hours of practicum placement in a variety of early childhood settings and with a variety of age groups. The AAS Degree in ECE provides the foundation for advanced studies in Early Childhood at colleges and universities; with some Bachelor level courses being available on Bay’s main campus.
