3021 Credit Hour Policy

It shall be the policy of the Board of Trustees of Bay de Noc Community College that a credit hour represents the student work required to demonstrate achievement of defined learning outcomes to be accomplished in one hour of direct faculty instruction in the classroom, or online, and two hours of out-of-class student work each week for the equivalent of 16 weeks a semester. Labs, co-ops, clinicals, studio work, and other academic activities require a minimum of two contact hours of student work each week for the equivalent of 16 weeks a semester for each credit hour.

This definition of credit hour applies to all courses regardless of the mode of delivery, including, but not limited to, online, hybrid, lecture, and laboratory.  Learning objectives, expected outcomes, and workload expectations that meet the standards set forth above should be clearly stated in all courses.
